New Campus Transit Study Released

A recently completed UT Campus Transit Study provides recommendations to enhance services in line with the Campus Master Plan. The study focused on improving and expanding campus bus routes, deploying the latest real-time passenger information technology and integrating parking and transit into one effective and efficient system.

Not Too Late To Save

Didn’t get a UT Semester Pass when classes started? It’s not too late to do it now, and still get full use out of your pass.

UT Semester Passes are not actually just good for the duration of a semester; they are good for 140 days from the first time you use them.

You already know how easy it is to ride the T to get around campus; but did you know that for just $50 (with a valid student, faculty or staff ID) you can get a pass that allows unlimited rides on any regular, fixed-route KAT bus? That means you can go from campus to downtown, Knoxville Center, West Town Mall, Fountain City or lots of other places, as often as you wish during the semester for no additional cost!

UT Semester Passes cannot be used on Express Routes, but otherwise, the possibilities are endless. And with the warm winter we’re having, and spring not too far off, your $50 pass will get you away from campus and out to greenways, parks and more, any time you need a break!

Extreme Makeover: Knoxville Edition Detour Alert

Extreme Makeover will be in Knoxville this week, working on a project in our area. There will be a short parade on campus on Tuesday, January 10 from about 3:00 to 4:30 p.m. During this time, Phillip Fulmer Way between Peyton Manning Pass and Andy Holt will be closed.

T Buses will be detoured onto Volunteer and the Gate 21 Bus Transfer Point will be closed to accommodate the Extreme Makeover event.

Spring Schedule and Martin Luther King Holiday

With the Spring semester beginning Wednesday, January 11, the T services will also be resuming their regular schedule. You can get complete information about which services will be resuming on which dates by clicking the “Current T Schedule” link in the navigation bar. All T services will be operating on a regular schedule by the first day of classes.

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day is Monday, January 16. There will be no T service, except for the T: Link and limited T: Access service on the MLK Jr. Holiday. Regular service will resume on Tuesday, January 17.

Resolve to Ride for Change!

Happy New Year! Have you made your resolutions yet? Maybe you resolved to eat healthier, study harder and make better grades, exercise more–or maybe you just resolved to stop making resolutions that you never keep.

Well, here’s a resolution that you CAN keep, and it can even help you with that resolution to exercise more or study harder! Make a resolution to Ride for Change this year by taking the T and KAT buses more often! Leave the car parked, and get a little exercise by walking to the nearest bus stop to catch the KAT to campus, then use the T system to get around to your classes.

And while you’re sitting on the KAT bus instead of behind the steering wheel, you can do some extra studying!

A KAT Semester Pass for UT students, faculty and staff is just $50 and it’s good for unlimited rides on any regular, fixed-route bus in the KAT system for the entire semester.

So, get your semester pass today and hop aboard to Ride for Change in 2012!

The T is currently on a break schedule, which means only limited Accesss and Link services are operating. The T: East-West, North-South, Late Nite and Ag Express do not operate during breaks. Route 43 and 44 also do not operate during breaks.

There will be NO service, including the Link and Access services, beginning Saturday, December 24, 2011 and continuing through January 1, 2012. On January 2, 2012, limited Access and Link service will resume.

The schedule for the start of Spring Semester services is as follows:
Sunday, Jan. 8: T: Late Nite and Full Link services begin
Monday, Jan. 9: All other T services, except Ag Express, begin
Wednesday, Jan. 11: Ag Express service begins

UT Campus Transit Study

The University has retained the Solstice Transportation Group to assist with the completion of a campus transit study. The study kicked off in early November and is intended to provide a comprehensive evaluation of the current campus transit system, the T, and recommendations to enhance the system in a cost-effective manner. As the study begins, input is being collected from a broad cross-section of stakeholders including students, faculty and staff. Everyone is encouraged to stop by a transit study outreach event planned for Monday, November 21 from 10:30 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. on the first floor of the University Center near the Bookstore. There will be NO T service on Thursday, November 24 or Friday, November 25, due to the Thanksgiving holiday. Also, on Study Day, November 30, all T services will operate on a regular schedule, EXCEPT for the Ag Express, which will not run.

November 11 is a significant day, but not really because it’s 11.11.11 on the calendar. It’s Veteran’s Day, an opportunity for all of us to reflect on what our veterans have sacrificed to defend this great country! Some of our veterans gave their lives…but ALL of our veterans have given SOME of their life to protecting our country. We salute our veterans!

Knoxville will be holding a Veteran’s Day Parade downtown, beginning at 10:45 a.m. If you’re not in class, come down and show your support of our veterans!

Also, be aware that due to the parade, some KAT routes will be on temporary detours, and the Vol Line trolley could experience some delays or detours as well. All routes will resume regular service as soon as the roads are re-opened.

Middle Way

Middle Way Drive is finally open again! However, since it’s already late in semester and we know most of you who use the T already have your route figured out by this point, we’ve decided to hold off on allowing buses to begin using that routing again. The T will remain on the same routing it’s been using the rest of the semester.

Look for some other route changes in the coming weeks and months, as more road closures and construction are being planned!
